Writers of /lit/, post the title of a story you have written or are working on.

Others, try and guess what the story is about.

I'll go first:

Does anyone find they tend to pick up from their inspirations TOO much?

I like to write but my style, tone and preference seem to change depending on what book I am enjoying at the moment. After big, ancient weighty tomes I feel the urge to write in large language about serious matters and will often let my character digress into discussions of philosophy or politics.

Yet then I will read something by Evelyn Waugh which is more light-hearted and humorous and will end up writing some light satire on modern society.

Does anyone else find their style or what they want to write changes with what they read?

This poem is based off some birds I saw

A suspicious pair creep
and prowl on the edge of Ladybird Lake.
They sneak on soil and stalk on
water, no ordinary fowls make no mistake!
The second is always silent and
the first he always speaks,
such guttural scrapes and squawks
they produce from their flesh-pink beaks.
Whenever there's chaos or commotion
at an ugly, little duckling scene
this predatory pair are always
the last to be seen.
And the only thing more unsettling
than their great, towering size
is to stare into the heart of
their bright pumpkin-orange eyes.
So keep watch for these hunters
like raptors lying in wait:
the most sinister of fowl by
the shores of Ladybird Lake.
