After nine months in a "successful" job writing cliche-ridden gibberish at a big, allegedly respectable news outlet, I've decided to quit and devote the next few months to fiction writing. I should have a while until my money runs out and I'm compelled to take another (probably equally useless and depressing) job, so, until then, I can devote as much time as I want to improving my technique.

Does anyone have any tips on how to approach this? If you had this opportunity, how would you want to make use of it?

I was told by my philosophy professor (Socratic philosophy course) that this was Nietzsche's worst work and, to quote him exactly, "incredibly overblown." I've only read Birth of Tragedy and Human, All Too Human but I wanted to tackle this next...what do you think of it?
