>All who were begotten at the time when their fathers and mothers came together will be called their brothers and sisters, and these, as I was saying, will be forbidden to inter-marry. This, however, is not to be understood as an absolute prohibition of the marriage of brothers and sisters; if the lot favours them, and they receive the sanction of the Pythian oracle, the law will allow them.

I'm going to make up a bunch of people and write about winning arguments against them.
I am very smart.

The jannies keep deleting on topic threads as if they were spam. Once a thread becomes too informative/useful/enjoyable they straight up delete it.

This board has the worst jannies immaginable.

Once you start reading into this stuff you become convinced that there's no higher activity for humans and that you should always keep reading the stuff. Nothing else compares, even if it gets boring with some parts you can't not doubt the importance.

What's some good contemporary or 20th century secondary lit on Plato? Either generally or for individual dialogues

Hijacking to ask whether I should bother with the questionable authenticity works of Plato before moving on to Aristotle (I might come back to them at some point)? I've read the four around the trial, cratylus, theaetetus, sophist, statesman and I'm reading parmenides now. There's still quite a bit more to go in terms of ones people are sure he wrote but there's also 10+ works people question.

When does one ought to state that, " we attempted to implement their suggestions and failed, and perhaps it would be better to discard their ideas since they fail to successfully account the true nature of things"?
