ITT: Books you were tricked into reading
After seeing this posted here all the time I listened to the audiobook and it did not live up to the hype at all.

I want to give a shot to pic related. I know that it's a bit of a meme book but I know nothing about it except that it's horror (right?) Set in a everchanging house. Jokes apart is it a good book or some pretentious bullshit?

I honestly prefer the sections narrated by Johnny

I just started it. I don't really read at all but the intro has my attention.
What does /lit/ think? Seems like the type of thing you'd write off as pop-/lit/ midwit schlock, but I'm not you.
Also is there any chance it's gonna turn me schizo.

I thought it was really good. The ongoing analysis from Johnny was tedious after awhile, but the sections concerning The Navidson Record worked perfectly. I'm a little confused about how Will was reading HOL while in the labyrinth, though.

Rec some other good "horror" novels.

I will never read a book that was as great as this one. Any other anons read this? Unbelievably good.

I love this book. Dismiss it as faux-literary bullshit if you want, but it's fun as fuck. I've read it multiple times. One of my favorite modern horror novels.

Is it genuinely terrifying and a unique book, or just a gimmick with no point that I'll forget in a week?

What's the best way to go about reading this? Specifically, should I be looking up the references to outside material in the annotations as I go along or not?

Is this book worth reading or is it just a meme? I'm about halfway through and even though I like its gimmick and how it relates to the narrative, the constant sidetracking to how dumb faggot who's losing his mind over a manuscript can't get over some slut is super annoying.

Just finished reading this piece of shit. It would've been so much better if it was based around just the Navidsons and their house. Everytime things got interesting faggot Johnny had to come in and mumble about some whores he fucked or some ship sinkinng, completely fucking up the flow. Fuck you Johnny.
