A friend of mine wanted advice on how to start reading as a hobby, since they probably got the attention span of your average zoomer I’m thinking of giving them pic. They seemed very curious about it.
Personally loved it, especially the letters of the narrator by his fucked up mom at the end as well as the house-plot itself.

You think ergodic lit like that would be good for someone to start off reading, just so they can find joy in it first?

Are people really having existential dread over this fucking shit? I've heard so many stories about how this book will scar you for life and how people(adults) literally slept with their light on for days after reading it. The story of the Navidsons and the endless labyrinth is very intriguing and I loved it but Johnny's endless ramblings about random shit totally ruins the creepy mood. Anytime something cool would happen faggot Johnny had to chime in and kill the whole atmosphere with his unrelated stories about banging hookers and other dumb shit. Release this book with only the Navidson story and it instantly becomes worth reading.

Finished this a month ago (I don't read nearly as much as I should) and it's been festering in my mind the whole time. The last page completely re-contextualized the story for me and I'm discovering more about it the more I think of it.

Recommended this to an older friend of mine (late 60s) whom I know is into literature, we're meeting on Friday to discuss it over dinner. I just finished a reread (been a while and I owe it to him) and I think it would be nice to have some more obscure theories/hidden details to discuss. Or really anything beyond the obvious, he's very much not Online. If you feel like discussing the book (again) or directing me to shit online it would be awesome.

Are there any good modern horror novels or is Stephen King still the only author who can write a decent horror?

What's with this book? I saw it mentioned here and did a little research and it seems to be regarded as a cult classic. Have you read it anon? Would you recommend it?

How in the fuck? What connections or cradle of wealth and/or power is this guy a beneficiary of to have this as his first book?
