So, /lit/, me and my friends are going to raid a library tomorrow and put some books in the right place.
Bibles into the fiction category,
Mein Kampf into sociology,
Comunist Manifest into religion,
Evolution theory books into history
etc...
Could you guys help us organize that place? any ideas for switches?

Anybody care to recommend some good books / authors in the sci-fi or "horror" genres? I don't need / want action on every page. I prefer sci-fi written by authors with at least some understanding of science, and / or authors who are so offbeat it doesn't matter.
I prefer slow-building horror. I recently read a book called "heart-shaped box," and that's a good example of what I don't like. IMO the author made two mistakes that are typical of the genre and ruin the story: 1) Ghost says "boo" every five pages. This dilutes the effect, making it ridiculous instead of whatever it was supposed to be. 2) Everything is explained. No threads left hanging. Spooky stories are spooky because the reader doesn't know what is going on.

I like Lovecraft, PKD, AC Clarke, B Aldiss, John Ajvide Lindqvist, early Greg Bear, Frank Herbert, and Charles Stross, among others.

So one day i heard this short story called "The Big Trip" and i really liked it. I don't know the author though. I was wondering if /lit/ knew who the author is.

It is about a guy who goes on a "big trip". i remember at one point he gets struck by lightning and says something about it being like he is "in the thunder" and it is all around him and stuff. the part i remember best is it ends with "it was the sound of a standing ovation" or something similar. at least that is what that telling of it ended with. if anyone knows who wrote this many thanks.

pic unrelated

Sup /lit/, I'm going on a massive cheap bookstore raid tomorrow. I'm gonna be looking around for the best deals I can--I have an on-going list of must haves and I was curious of what I should be on the lookout for.

Any suggestions?
