The most direct means of providing meaning to one's life that I am aware of is specifically to serve the other without the expectation of recompense. To willingly help someone without reward is to cause oneself to value that person, to serve those you value without reward will make you value yourself more, to serve a greater amount of people in your life will make you value your life more, and to be willing to serve that which is found in all lives is to obtain a greater and greater self perceived value of life and existence itself, which is very pleasant to say the least.

Remember: the love that you withhold is the pain that you carry.
