I’m opening a new thread on the subject of how to write women characters well.

My guess is that in general one can count on one’s own humanity, since we are all - men and women and individuals - basically all very similar.

That said, there are obvious differences in behavior. A simple example: testosterone is far higher in males and one of the effects of it is to make one more aggressive and risk-taking. Other simple example: women feel sexually aroused by different things than men. Like some anon said: “Imagine having a pussy and wanting to feel hard and hot flesh inside of it, and imagine that you want men to desire you and want to grab you and do things to you and to be interested in you than in other girls”. Then there’s the fact that men can make women pregnant but don’t have the burden of nourishing and sustaining the baby with their own organism, and all the evolutive and psychological derivations of this fact.

So, I was thinking on asking for new sources on books - fiction and non-fiction - that would help any male writer to create more realistic females.

One of my suggestions is this article:

I also recommend:

The novels of Elena Ferrante
The short stories of Alice Munro

I also think that this list made by Elena Ferrante might be a good place to start:

https://amp.theguardian.com/books/2020/nov/21/elena-ferrante-names-her-40-favourite-books-by-female-authors

Anyway, I’m anxious for new comments and suggestions.
