what is /lit/ opinion on Moby Dick?

I finally read it last year and couldn't believe how good it was.

Is God dead? Are we now free to act as we wish, as individuals, without the looming and invisible hand of the big other constantly hovering above us?

I'd like to read a book about Moby-Dick, and also a book about Melville in general. What do you recommend?

Currently reading pic related, and the chapter that was made in the style of a cathechism about the morality of whaling is probably one of my favourite chapters of any book ever, second only to Ithacha in Ulysses. I also enjoyed "Cetology".

What other books have a chapter thats written like these?
