What's with the stains on the wall at chest level?

Is that a century's worth of snot?

Do they donk their scalps into the wall at the end of each session?

Did the opposite for me. I started reading a lot with an interest in Christianity, now after much research i cant take the religion or the bible seriously at all anymore.

Little brain: ranking the stories in terms of quality.
Medium brain: tracing themes and symbols in and out of the stories.
Big brain: reading the collection as a novel rather than a series of stories.
Galaxy brain: lol this is just boneless Dubliners.

>Your logic does not follow.
It does, though.
>Premise 1 (paraphrased): The value of a thing can be measured by how well it sells.
>Conclusion 1 (from P1): If artwork A outsells artwork B, then artwork A is more valuable than artwork B.
>Facts 1-3: Phantom, Love, and Gucci have outsold Miller, Faust, and all the Ballads, respectively.
>Conclusion 2 (from C1 and Facts 1-3): Phantom, Love, and Gucci are more valuable than Miller, Faust, and all the Ballads, respectively.
The deduction from P1 to C1 is valid, and the facts can't really be disputed. C2 is simple substitution. So, either C2 is true (which I hope we both agree isn't the case), or P1 is false.

I agree with you that commercial success is a good indicator that an artwork might be worth looking into — and is often a part of that artwork's canonization — but it's only one factor. Franz Kafka, John Williams, and many other great authors lived in relative obscurity and died with little to their name. To this day, neither of them approach the sales numbers of Fifty Shades or the Twilight novels. But in seventy years, which book will we still be reading — The Trial, or Fifty Shades Darker?

I also agree that "low" art can be and often is very good. I unironically love Gucci Gang, despite having shitposted about it. But that doesn't mean Gucci Gang rewards repeat listens in the same way other songs do — it's just the flavor of the month, and already people are starting to get tired of it.

I don't really have a problem spicy retellings of Shakespeare, but the retelling has to have its own merits — Kurasawa's films are excellent, and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre did a great suffragette-inspired Taming of the Shrew that was a lot of fun.

My only point is that "sells well" is not the same as "good," and anyone who thinks that hasn't thought hard enough.
