Interesting, I had the exact opposite experience. I felt like that pre-SSRI, and after I felt as though my mood and outlook were much improved. Same drug too.

I work somewhere I get to observe lots of young men filing through to their future prospects. There is such a crisis of positive masculine energy going on right now among them that I'm legitimately frightened at the thought of what needs to happen to break them of it. Male assertiveness is mistaken for hostility/arrogance. Harmlessness is disguised as restraint. They act out a kind of self-hate and masochism, then tell themselves it's noble stoicism. There are virtually no positive masculine traits that the people most involved with boys and young men on a macro scale aren't trying to shove down the crapper right now. Femininity has its virtues, but it's being marketed to our culture as the big cure to everything that ails our society when clearly the issue is the opposite- we are demonizing masculinity while simultaneously expecting our young men to bare the same burdens as before, with shame as their only reward. The young women especially hate it, though they even more seldom know how to identify it. No woman wants to fuck a man who doesn't ever think of himself as at all responsible for her well-being and asks for permission every time he touches her. I'm going guess that you're either completely talking out of your ass, don't interact with young males, or feel like admitting to this reality inadvertently betrays some liberal value you think might be related to it. There is definitely a crisis. It's petty and stupid to some people how common fucking sense seems to become explosive information in times like these, that's just the way it works.
