See, no one says “cool” anymore. That’s such an old person thing. Now we say “coral”, as in “That nose job is so coral."

In english class, we have to pick any novel, read it, and do certain things (question sheets, writing assignments, etc)
I want to pick A Clockwork Orange, but considering how graphic it is I don't think it would be a good idea...
Do you think I should? And do you know any other book with a similar theme/genre?

Usually when seeing a movie and then reading the book it was based on, I like the book more than the movie. Examples: 2001 A Space Odyssey, 2010 Odyssey Two, Kite Runner, The Great Gatsby just to name a few from recent memory that I liked the book better than the film version.

I just finished reading A Clockwork Orange, and I gotta say that I really liked the movie better. Sweet 70's-style futuristic depiction of the dystopian society, cool 70's soundtrack. And at the start of the book, Anthony Burgess basically said the book sucked and that the only reason anyone reads it was because it is famous.

Other movies you've liked better than the books?

>wake up in the morning feeling like
>go to town to buy 2nd hand books
>shopping around and come out of a door when i see a girl about to cross the street
>she has her ipod on and can't hear the traffic as a car comes speeding around a corner
>grab her and pull her back basically saving her life
>she's shocked and a little dazed so i take her into starbucks to get her a drink and calm her down
>she thanks me
>looks at the book i have in my hand (a clockwork orange my currently reading)
>we start talking about it
>she keeps laughing at what i sayand brushing my leg with hers
>oooooooookay :S
> trying to steer convo to my thoughts on the book and the use of language
>she said she found it hard to understand and pointless
>i said i really enjoyed the mix of Russian, English and old English and found it invigorating after my recent spout of reads
>she said she's more interested in what i'm doing tommorrow than a 'silly old book'
>silly old book
>this does not sit well with me
>tell her literature is of vital importance to society and that she's an imbecile for thinking otherwise
>she looks upset and tries to laugh about it
>says she wants to discuss books with me, she really likes fantasy and sci-fi
>tell her i only discuss literature
>says she's interested in discussing real literature with me too if i want
>tell her about /lit/ where she can try and educate herself first
>says she already posts here as anonymous
>i am not surprised
>stand up and make my excuses
>she says meekly when i'm at the door 'i was wondering if you want to come to a gig with me tomorrow night' and gives me her number and name
>delete hee info from my phone
>rush home and vomit violently into my sink
>stagger to my bedroom and use the smell of my books as smelling salts
anyways what did everyone think about A Clockwork Orange?
on page 90/150 atm and really enjoying it, almost at the end of part 2!
pic related, it's the book, but not my edition

Hi there, /lit/. Ex-tripfag here....I just finished A Clockwork Orange, and I loved it. I'm curious as to why Burgess would have added the last chapter he did to the novel and Kuprick didn't add it to the film ending where Alex winds up exactly back where he started, and the reader realizes Burgess' view that, even with reform, a violent teenager will always be a violent teenager.

Talk about books, motherfuckers. Talk about books! Talk about this book. What did you think of it? How about the Nadsat slang? I didn't realise there was a glossary.
