It's just an idealised style, of course a more accurate depiction of a poor Russian man would be an unshaven goblin, but why should it have to be accurate? I think a big reason for all the art is because many foids were put on to Crime & Punishment from tiktok and now simp for him. Personally I like the e-boy look, it's how I saw him in my head.

>highest levels of enlightenment
I don't know what exactly you mean by this phrase, but it is quite possibly a fiction.

With that out of the way: no, I don't think so. To the extent that enlightenment can be thought of as an upwards motion, there's nothing more enlightening than climbing out of a hole. Seizing the reins to one's mind and overcoming, say, addiction, is a rather enlightening sort of experience.

I think it helps, because some of the best writing is revelatory of a part of being 'human' that most would rather remain ignorant of, or regard as an offence to their moral/ethical values. I dont think you 'need' to get to the point of destitution, but I also dont think you'd be writing about murdering an old lady and her sister with an ax and expounding on religious axioms if you were in a much more cheerful state either.

I don't think i have a fully formed opinion, I'm a novice to Dostoyevsky and a novice to literature in general. Perhaps the more i read of Dostoevsky and read in general ill have a well versed opinion but for now Katz seems to be fine for me

I must ask, im looking to buy the brothers Karamazov after I'm done with C&P and I'd like to know what translations are recommended so i can compare myself to see which one fits me better

Both of you are horrifically wrong. Raskolnikov obviously looked like this, have you even read the novel?

Do you have any? I only have this Raskolnikov
I think it's pretty funny to post them and only a few people get it.
