>My favorite book....my favorite book? Anonette, asking me what my favorite book is is like asking a parent who their favorite child is. This is a false dilemma. I have many favorite books. Just because two books are both books does not mean they are comparable to one another. To ask me to choose between, say, Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov and Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time is to ask me to choose between two things that are not the same. Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov is a tragic story of a family centering around the conflict between faith in God and the doubts in Him raised by this material world. Marcel Proust’s masterpiece, on the other hand, is a coming of age story. A story of a boy growing into a man and the lessons he learns along the way, all while lampooning the behavior of early 20th century French aristocrats. To ask me to choose a “favorite” between these leads me towards two possible conclusions: one, you are simply not familiar with literature as medium and therefore do not understand why the question you are asking me is faulty on premise, or two, you are simply a cruel-hearted wench who enjoys inflicting intellectual anguish upon men. This date is now over. Good day, madame.

>All told, holiday leisure time in medieval England took up probably about one-third of the year. And the English were apparently working harder than their neighbors. The ancien règime in France is reported to have guaranteed fifty-two Sundays, ninety rest days, and thirty-eight holidays. In Spain, travelers noted that holidays totaled five months per year.

>In the history of Westeros there has never been a cause more just and righteous than the struggle by King Daemon I and his heirs to take their rightful throne from the bastard "Targaryens" that have driven the Seven Kingdoms straight into the ground. It is certain that Daeron Waters was no Targaryen but a bastard born of Aemon the Dragonknight, that all born of this line are illegitimate and probably Dornish also.

>No line is legitimate but that of the king who bore the sword, and the Seven and by my honour as an anointed knight I swear that Westeros shall not know peace until a black dragon sits on the throne.

I see literally nothing wrong with using these 'fallacies' in a discussion and if you can't stand your ground against them, that means that you've lost.

>Imagine asking such a patently absurd question as “what is your favorite book?” That is a question that only someone who doesn’t read would ask. I have read a great number books in my time and I have loved many of them. You can’t just compare books and pick a favorite. Each one is a totally unique experience with unique qualities and is a reflection of its unique author. Now please, do me a favor and never ask me that again.
