>only really works if you relate to the characters on a moral and spiritual level.
>Doesn't relate with the Underground Man
>Doesn't relate with Ivan's anguished soul
I envy you.

So it's really worth reading? I'm almost completely socially retarded, to the point where when I read pretty obvious body language accurately I feel good about myself.
Help me...

Bloom was a massive hero of mine. He could, undeniably, be a contrary old twat with a tendency for self promotion but his passion for the canon, for the quality and aesthetics and the history of literature were ever present and completely intoxicating to a young undergraduate like me, who had been lulled into a deathlike state of boredom by the sterile and ideological teaching of his faculty and had begun to fall out of love with literature.
I used to spend hours reading his books in the library, despite my lecturers insistence that he should be ignored and left to rot like the dying old fossil he was. But through that reading, a whole new world opened up and with Bloom as my guide, a whole new way of seeing.
The amount of writers and texts I discovered through Bloom is countless. He showed me the importance of tradition, of precedence, of structure and form while never being afraid to be iconoclastic when the time came for it. I take these lessons forward into my every thought and action. I can genuinely say that I would not be the man today without him, for better or worse. I wish I could have met him and express my gratitude. All I have to give are these awkward hastily written words. RIP
