Is ALL of psychoanalysis basically bullshit?

From what I've read, it seems that nearly all of Freud's theories about the mind have been thrown away; they're not scientific (for example see his work on psycho-sexual development).

But what about "contemporary" psychoanalytic theory? Have they moved completely away from Freud or are they still trying to justify his work?

Is anyone caught up with the literature/studies in the field?

Does anyone know of any god-tier pop-psychology books?

Preferably books that touch on the history of psychology rather than specific mental disorders.

Who are some contemporary philosophers/theorists that take Psychoanalysis seriously?

Let's talk about Psychoanalysis and particularly Freud /lit/.

I've been reading a lot of Freud lately, specifically An Outline of Psychoanalysis, and while I do not agree with his theory psycho-sexual development (due contradictory evidence in anthropology), his theory of mental life seems highly plausible.

What do you think, /lit/?
