What's a cheap eBook reader that I can read PDFs and free epubs without much eye strain?

Unless you're looking for something to post on some site or an obscure self-published novel, the end result is going to be far from anything from the idea and be grounded in realism. The problem is that even if everything went right, your Great American (or whatever) novel is fantastic, and everyone on /lit/ who saw the near final-draft is in tears over how good it is, how everything was perfect and how none of it made anyone cringe (start adding memes and you'll run into problems very fast very quick), it probably won't be published until after you an hero because the major publishers will hate you, if they can stand the "white straight male" protagonist they wouldn't be able to take the harsh criticism to the world around them, so few people will ever read it.

I am writing a dissertation on postcolonialism in Southern Africa. However, I'm really struggling with actually writing 11k words. I feel like I can convey the same message and results in 7-8k words.

Does anyone have some advice on what I could add, or how I can write more words that are just beating around the bush?

I just got to Cyclops in Ulysses and I'm going to take a break and read through a shorter book before diving back in. I'd like some recommendations based on what I'm currently thinking of reading during this hiatus. So far the list is as follows.

Cosmopolis - Delillo
Libra - Delillo
Blood Meridian - McCarthy
Inherent Vice - Pynchon

There are a few others I can be bothered to list as well.
