with divorce rates going up and men losing everything they own in unfair divorce and custody trials, and with women marrying later and later in life to enjoy promiscuous one night stands and only "settling down" after all their best years are behind them, marriage has become absolutely pointless for men.

As for the whole career thing, that'll vary from person to person. There will always be slackers with no motivation who want to leech of people, but with unemployment levels at all time highs and education costs at all time highs, that's certainly not going to bode well for a lot of people. Don't forget that nearly everyone exiting college today was told to do well in school because "you don't want to be flipping burgers for the rest of your life" and now they're criticizing their children for being too proud to flip burgers for a living.

tl;dr: men are shamed into marriage, women aren't shamed for destroying marriages. All major religions used marriage so both genders would behave in a constructive manner and punish their primal instincts-- now men are still expected to adhere to their traditional responsibilities while women aren't.
