Back in the days people lived by tradition and identified by their ancestral cultures. Sons inherited the professions of their fathers, etc. Then came the Industrial Revolution, which began the exponential death of tradition -- by the end of WW2 tradition is pretty much dead in the West. Subcultures are merely a surrogate identity, inauthentic by definition. Being the fragile things they are, their deaths should not be surprising.

"Anti-Tech Revolution" is probably the most important social science book ever written: It establishes an entirely new and well supported social grand-theory.

Kacaynski is also a far more cogent, logically precise, and scientific thinker. Kaczynski writes more directly and is far easier to read.

The only reason people say that Ellul is better is cuz they haven't read all of Kaczynski's work, they are timid normies who are disturbed by the idea that the best anti-tech thinker also killed people, and they are conformists who don't want to rock to boat too much when discussing anti-tech. pathetic.

This is just the nail in the coffin for a process that has been going on since the industrial revolution. As our society becomes more scientific and technical, as our lives become more and more determined not by choice, but by technical and scientific necessity, scientific and technical considerations take greater and greater importance.

But science and technology are only tools or knowledge and efficiency, and they cannot go from a why or a how to an ought.

The scientific and technological establishment, however, would like to become the sole rulers--the "philosopher kings" so to speak--of our technological society. And, to the extent that technological society is governed almost exclusively by technical necessity, and not individual choice or will, they are correct in assuming that only they are competent enough to know the most technically efficient solutions to our technical problems.

But the question then becomes: Is it a GOOD thing that we are living in an increasingly technical world? If not, and it can be reasonably determined that science and technology are taking humanity down an utterly wild path into the unknown, than the answer is no. In this case, there is no more reason to cede moral authority and power to scientists and technicians over all aspects of society than there is to give an axe-murderer the keys to your family's house.

The problem is...when you get into the truly black-pilling ideas, barely anyone can psychologically come to grips with them--they find them too disturbing--so they retreat into denial. They then usually deride the ideas as "crazy."

"Progress" is a myth. Technological growth INEVITABLY leads to destruction. These ideas are in complete, total opposition the the foundational ideas of the entire modern world. By definition, you can't get more black-pilled.
