Is there an expanded version of the Romans' chart from the wiki? This is missing obvious ones like Plutarch for example.

Also this.
It's not even close to complete by any stretch, but what the hell, might as well post it. You'll find what you're looking for either way, once you start reading them.

what are the key texts to read for Roman history? I’ve read the hellenistic philosophers (moving on to the Neoplatonists next), the Aeneid and currently reading the Metamorphoses.

Who are the Roman equivalents to Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon? Should I just follow this chart? and Roman anons about? I was looking at the Oxford Workd Classics editions for Lucy’s History of Rome, but it looks like this is split up into a number of smaller books. Anybody read these and would recommend?

Alright lads, I've successfully started with the greeks. Is pic related a good enough chart for the romans or is there a better one?

You need to know Greek mythology to understand appreciate the Theogony. It's mostly a list in verse form of the names of gods. The Works and Days gives you another picture of Greek life and thought. If you don't want to read Hamilton for a compilation of myths, you could also read Apollodorus' library or Ovid's Metamorphoses as earlier sources.

Learn Latin and Greek. Everyone (except Washington) knew those tongues.

Read a bunch of Cicero.
Read your Epicurus, if you like Jefferson.
Read your Epictetus, if you like Adams.
Read the Bible, twice: once as God's only Truth; and once as mere Literature.
Read and know your Shakespeare.
Read and reread Addison, particularly his 'Cato'.

Plus, as >>12331747 said: their own works, Johnson, and Sidney. For Enlightenment thinkers, definitely throw some Voltaire in as well.

Pic related might help.
