>I would suggest you stop looking into it here because the books are way better the less you know about them going into it.
in fact, some hinge upon the fact

I'd like to thank the anon who told me to stick with Project Hail Mary. It becomes a lot more interesting about a third way through or so.

Is Project Hail Mary actually worth sticking through with? I find the protagonist inappropriately quippy as author can't settle on what mood he's going for.

Any books like this? I really enjoyed it and would like to read something similar.

Basically something is killing Earth so an astronaut or a group of astronauts are sent to deep space to find an answer to save earth.

Ayyylamos are also found and a they help because the same thing is happening to their planet.

It also has a lot of hard science.

This reads like it was written by a child.
Its bizarre because I really liked The Martian

Why does this type of book make me so angry? I listened to the first hour or so of Project Hail Mary in somebody's car today. It's about a faggot high school teacher who wakes up on a spaceship and can't remember anything except for all the EPIC science facts that help him solve the mystery. The dude remembers through flashbacks that he's a former molecular biologist but now a high school science teacher. Then some agency comes to recruit him to save the world.

I like fiction and think it can be good (just finished The Terror and really liked it). But I can't stand these books that hinge on the fact that the protag is just awesome in their field, but the author obviously only did surface-level research into said field, and the result is like some teenager's fantasy. My question is, what do you call these types of books and how can I avoid them? This fucking book is rated very highly apparently.
