You could do that, but I would rather recommend you to read short texts by Marx and Engels beforehand to get a good idea of what was their lifelong project rather than diving straight into Marx's longass critique of classical economics.

The first chapter of the German Ideology is the most concise exposition of communist ideology ever: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1845/german-ideology/ch01a.htm
In the Preface to A Contribution to the Critique of your mom, Marx describes in great clarity his vision of history in a few pages that you can even read during your lunch hour: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1859/critique-pol-economy/preface.htm
Socialism, Utopian and Scientific gives you a quick rundown on the history of socialism and why Marx & Engels were Hegelstans: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1880/soc-utop/index.htm
The Critique of Gotha Program gives you an idea of the autism that permeated Marx's socialist theory, and gives you enough knowledge to participate to the debate about what Marx really meant by "communism": https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1875/gotha/index.htm
Wage Labour & Capital, and Value, Price & Profit gives you the basics of Marxist economics: https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/wage-labour/index.htm | https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1865/value-price-profit/index.htm

If you read all of this stuff, you will know more about Marx than 99% of the population (including self-proclaimed Marxists!) without ever opening a page of Das Kapital! How sweet is that?

Also, >>15293987 is right, don't let yourself get fooled by internet Leninists. Read Debord or Postone if you want to refer to some secondary sources, not Stalin or Mao.
