It's true. The only effective form of literature criticism is to become an author yourself.
Take that car example, for instance. If you say you don't like a car, it's because you have an idea of what a "proper car" is supposed to be. Unless you're a car mechanic, however, you do not know the limits of what a "proper car" entails, aside from a few select barriers. For example, you would have to be extremely uninformed in order to decide that you don't like a car because it cannot fly. That's on the outer limit of uninformation. As you get closer to the idea of a "proper car", however, more experience and technical knowledge is required, and past a certain threshold that knowledge can only come from having worked on a car yourself.
Observe again "literature critics", among whom there are none that do not view what they read as flying cars.

Stop listening to this website and read what you want to read.
If you want to read something because you think you have to read it to be informed or educated, try to read it, and then, if you're not getting anything out of it, read a summary of it or the sparknotes or wikipedia page or whatever so you at least have some knowledge of what the author was trying to convey.

Christians now are the edgy atheists of the 90s and 2000s. They spout lines of text without understanding any of it. They cleave to it like the atheists did and think that because they follow this creed women are uninterested when in fact it is their physical appearance and childish mentality that repell them.

I'm a completely demotivated virgin stoner in his early 20s and I can't get myself to do a whole lot to improve my life. I'm a priviliged white cis-male or whatever. I'm not poor or stuff like that. No doubt any criticism this might make you hurl at me would be true and valid, but I'd rather you recommend me a "lifechanging" book. ARE there any books like? Is changing your life with literature a long and ponderous journey through the many many works of many many authors, or is there books or a book out there that alters its readers mind with its.. astonishing literary value or whatever. I don't know. If there's a book like this you felt accomplished something like this, say it here.

While i appreciate your voice a disagreement has come between us regarding The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. I felt it was quite rich in creating its characters and lives against their respective objects. The opening line tells you the whole story, which is quite difficult to do so, please, refrain from saying that the prose is obtuse. Its actually quite on point.
