What you must do is gather other stories and alter their symbolic references slightly.

Like, say, take satan and turn him into Lord Voldermort or Sauron, or take Jesus and turn him into Harry potter, or Neo or Frodo.

Focus the narrative upon the struggle between opposing the forces, say the batman or the joker, or technology and humans. Put something large at stake, like the end of all goodness or something.

Then take human archetypes and glamourise/fantasticalise them ie nerd, jock etc super brain and super muscle respectively etc let people see reflections of themselves in your writing, but not that it is so obvious to them that they project their neuroses onto the characters.

Involve politics, war, love, betrayal, characters and a load of butt fluff for children and voilah you have a masterpiece.

Hello, /lit/
I recently read Bukowski's Ham On Rye and wanted to ask, what are some similair books?
I also read Post Office, and while fantastic, it didn't conveyn the same emotions as Ham
I thought about getting Factotum, is it more like PO or Ham?

Hi /lit/
I just finished Ham On Rye by Charles Bukowski, and want to read the next book in the Henry Chinaski series. However I want to read the series in chronological order - which book comes after Ham On Rye, i.e. starts after the ending of Ham On Rye?

What are your thoughts on Charles Bukowski?
I have just watched the movie factotum, finished the book obviously and then I'm going to read Post-office.
I have to deliver an assignment about Bukowski next week and I'd appreciate it if some of my fellow
bukowski fans shared some of their insights about Bukowski or factotum, or some of his other work.

Hey /lit/,

My grandfather's second wife just died. She didn't really like me too much, but one of her daughter's just asked me to find a poem to be read at her funeral.

What should I pick? Her family is 99% red neck country religious folk. I have to be sincere about this, but at the same time I'd like to pick something with an undertone. (picture highly related, she hated Bukowski. But does he have any poems suitable for a funeral?)

PS: This is very serious. I'm not too familiar with poetry, and will most likely pick something from this thread assuming we get something usable in here.
