Hey /lit/ first time poster here

I am looking for a recommendation on a HP Lovecraft compilation book, but I cant decide on which one. Hear both the Library of America and the Necrominion are both good (Barnes and Noble one seems too expensive for me), any suggestions?

For some reason I feel like you guys would really dislike the works.

If you read enough of his letters, biographies, and other peoples' accounts of his personality and habits, you can make a pretty strong case HP had autism.

But then it depends on what you mean by good writers.

Can we have a Lovecraft thread? feel free to talk about anything Lovecraft related. I am, however, most interested in hearing: What you think about H.P Lovecraft and his work, which stories you find most worth reading or most enjoyable, and whether his stories taught you anything or influenced you in any way?

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th' Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

Hello guys, I'd like to read some H. P. Lovecraft but don't know where to start (I've read that Cthulhu cult begins in the "Call of Cthulhu" so should I start with that?) and in what order I should read it.

Thanks in advance.

I'm nearly done reading most of Lovecraft's work.

Remaining I have:
>Dreams of Witch House
>The Thing on the Doorstep
>Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath

Which one is best? Also when I finish I've been thinking of looking into some Clark Ashton Smith as I know he writes a bit in the mythos. Is his stuff any good?

I keep hearing about Lovecraft quite from some of my friends, so I'm curious to see what all the hype is about. I'm new to the horror genre, but read quite a lot of Science Fiction.

Is it worth reading some of his books?
If so, which ones are recommended?
inb4 >Hurr Lovecraft is 4 plebs etc etc

I'm trying to remember the title of a short story that I read long ago. It was a fiction/horror story, but unfortunately I can't remember the author's name.

The plot was basically this (as best as I can remember):
A man gets an offer by a demon, in which for the next ten(?) years he can have anything he ever wants.
In exchange, after that time the demon would return and pose a problem to the man. If it was solved, the man would continue his life normally. If not, the demon would take his soul/make him his slave/something like that.

The man spends the years having everything he wants.
After that time, the demon returns and places him in a sealed room, and tells him that the problem is to escape this room within the hour.
He tells him that he can move however he wants, but the room is completely sealed airtight.
The man finally escapes at the last minute by travelling back in time and not accepting the offer in the first place, thus not having to be in the sealed room in the end.

Pic kinda related, I keep thinking it's Lovecraft.

Any suggestions?

Certain golden ages are often portrayed in literature all over the world. So /lit/, what's your personal golden age?

Mine would be when I was around fifteen, not a single care in the world, I had my first real girlfriend (still miss her), lots of friends and everything was going according to some master plan.

Of course I exclude all the shit in my flashbacks, but that's the whole point of a golden age.

>Pic unrelated.

Hello /lit/ -- I recently started to get into writing. I would appreciate feedback on my first piece of flash fiction. It's a horror story, less than 1000 words.

Sorry for the formatting. I just threw the HTML file together.

The story is called The Giggles and can be seen here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/37253472/giigles.html .

Inspired by a myth I heard about Lovecraft.
