This is the first series of books I've read in a while. What's /lit/'s opinion of the First Law?

The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie

You owe it to yourself to read these fucking novels.

>No elves/dwarves/generic fantasy shit
>Every character is a minor asshole at best, God-tier troll/asshole at worst
>Little amounts of magic. Whatever magic there is, it's serious shit.
>Shit-tons of realistic humor

After that, pick up Best Served Cold (the first in the trio of stand-alone books in the series). Then pick up The Heroes (the second). This year he'll release A Red Country (3rd and last standalone) and then off to pen another trilogy, all in the same world.

The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie

Fucking amazing because every character is just overflowing with honesty. Every character is basically an anti-hero, it shows you that heroes can be royal assholes bordering on psychopaths and the villians also have some good.

It's one big trilogy full of believable combat, subdued fantasy tropes preventing them from going over-the-top retarded, amazing characters and characterisation and just plain old genuinely hilarious dark comedy.

I can't recommend this fucking series enough, that's how good it is.

Joe Abercrombie - First Law Trilogy.
The Blade Itself
Before They Are Hanged
The Last Argument of Kings

You ever heard of this shit? I've been devouring these books for a while now, and I am in the middle of the last one at the moment. The style of these books is amazing, the way of the narration changing with the current main character, the sense of humour, the gritty realistic violence.
I love these books already, and I haven't even read them more than once.
Compared to the Deathgate cycle, which I finished in two days, this is at least as good.
What do you think?

Who else has had the intense pleasure of reading The First Law trilogy?

I just finished the last book yesterday night and I think I found a new all-time top favourite.
