Bumping with something stupid and silly but probably interesting:

If you're interested in linguistics and you want a new hobby (which, come to think of it, this would probably be useful in /lit/), look into something called "conlangs" or "conlanging". A "conlang", or "CONstructed LANGuage", is a fictional language created by usually one person, but sometimes a group of people. Think Dothraki and High Valyrian from that one Reddit fantasy show; Quenya, Sindarin, etc. from the Tolkien universe; Na'vi from Avatar, etc. It's kinda fun to develop your own language if you figure out how.

I advise reader discretion when looking into conlanging communities. They tend to be filled with trannies and other genderspecials for whatever reason. Unless you don't mind those kinds of people, this is best a personal hobby. But please don't let that discourage you.

You can learn all the basics of phonology and grammatical terms by fucking around on YouTube and Wikipedia. If you're legitimately curious how languages work and didn't just throw a dart, you'll probably find something about linguistics you'll find pretty interesting.

If you're curious about linguistics and want to have a silly stupid worthless hobby around it, look up something called "conlangs". A conlang is a "con"structed "lang"uage, silly shit like Na'vi from Avatar or Klingon from Star Trek, and some autists like to make their own as an obscure art. NEVER join any conlanging communities unless you don't mind a bunch of trannies and communists and other radical leftist demons; they're all over the hobby for reasons I still don't know. I've learned to live with keeping the hobby to myself for that reason.

As far as jobs go however, good fucking luck finding anything aside from translating or interpreting.

t. had an autistic interest in linguistics since middle school
