It's funny that the golden age of black Brazilian literature was the late 19th century.

We did have impressive black writers during the 20th century, but most of them - João Ubaldo etc. - were pretty much second-rate when compared to the truly major ones. Meanwhile, Drummond, Guimarães Rosa, Clarice Lispector, João Cabral were all white. Even Jorge de Lima was white by Brazilian standards.
