Hello /lit/ I decided recently to revisit Lord of the Flies and this one sentence caught my attention:

"Passions beat about Simon on the mountain-top with awful wings."

What does Golding mean by this? Is it related at all to the passions of Christ or have I been getting the wrong message?

Books you've read more than one time and why?

Pic related was the latest. I've talked with people about it and it seemed to be a lot of things that I missed out on and couldn't remember from school. Turned out it was true. It's a slow descent into madness and how it's portrayed in the surrounding world, the enviroment, the characters and some almost surreal scenes.

Why should i read this , /lit ?

The best book I've read so far was The lord of the Flies, which is a brilliant book describing a group of boys that tries to govern themselves on an abandoned island. Things go wrong, and it all turns to savagery.

The writing style is marvelous, there were even moments that made me shiver.

So please /lit/ take me to the depths of the human mind, what've you got?

What is /lit/'s opinion on Lord of the Flies?

I enjoyed it, I thought it was extremely well written. But I didn't find any of the character's remotely likable.

Golding says he didn't use females because he was male and his sons and grandsons where obviously male, and he didn't make it mixed as he didn't think the sexual issues that would have to arise were important, and mainly because he believed that boys best represented a striped down basic society.
