I have an essay/reaction to a book in progress by a guy I respect which you may enjoy about the issues of establishing a 'living religion'. I won't repeat the whole thing here but the core issue is that through a naturalistic religious view it is impossible to purposefully craft a legitimate religion in order to "serve a purpose/be serviceable". The only genuine way to create faith is through lived experience which is the path I'm pursuing to find faith again.
