Why do we always have chart threads but never chart making threads?

It's shitty that we've never come up with a sequel to the Resume with the Romans chart (instead we made a prequel to the Start with the Greeks, which I didn't think there was much demand for), but I don't know enough to make one myself t b h, so can't complain too much

I really don't foresee any huge change in the form of the novel this century (the future after that is a different matter), but I think that art in the 21st century ought to and slowly is becoming reacquainted with the human figure. You see this in the trend of late postmoderns like Franzen and Wallace to load up their novels with more intimate human concerns, especially that of family (which is a theme often neglected by postmodern fiction and mistreated by kneejerk 20th century "realist" fiction).

I think also that the cultural ground won by the left in this century will be lost, and this century will belong to the right. I've got very mixed feelings about this personally, as someone who trends towards socialist views but is disenchanted with the modern left.

One thing is certain: that the epic will adapt. This is what the epic is, a constantly evolving form. There is a continuous line from Homer through Virgil, to Dante, Milton, and finally to Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, Joyce, Pynchon and Wallace kek. The literary brick will never die and the doorstop will be around forever.

Also the university will cease to exist as an institute of the humanities by the middle of the century.

It's never a good idea to be too bleak about this kind of thing. Also, throughout human history no one but a very select few read seriously, so we'll just to the normal run of things when plebs stop pretending to read

I know, in simple terms, analytic phil is more sympathetic to science, compared to continental phil being more sympathetic to the arts

but all the same why is there a tonne of continental engagement w/the sciences (however successful you consider it to be) and basically no analytic engagement w/the arts ?

Why is there no analytic literary criticism for example ?

Well I'm Scottish so I didn't do A-Levels. We've got an alternate system, of Highers (done in year 5, probably the most important of our grades, and slightly lower than a-levels in difficulty), and Advanced Highers (done in year 6, less important unless you're applying for a straight-a requirement course, and about the same level as 1st year university roughly speaking)

Highers I did English, Classical Studies, Geography, German, and Latin
Advanced Highers I did English and Classical Studies
I also crashed higher French in year 6

Ngl I got A's across the board, but it's pretty odd cuz I was never a straight A student till 5th year. I was pretty middling actually. Not sure what happened.

Seriously, if musicians can earn a bunch by doing weddings etc., and painters can sell their paintings, what can I do if I'm a competent writer?

Also, don't short stories pay like shit, before someone suggests that (huge amounts of effort if you take it seriously, with very little reward)
