I actually thought the same thing as I typed those quotes out. It strikes me as a kind of solace or bittersweet reflection. For all his precision and technical reserve, Whitehead's character as an incredibly sympathetic sensitive human seeps through across his writings. His values and cares as a person making sense of the world still shine past the volumes of intellectual reflection, but never in excess or without due cause. He is a philosopher with a poet tucked away in his heart, and it always warms me to see him let his little poet say a few words here and there.

If monism includes all existence and we are within existence we can determine that monism is possessed of characteristics that enable something such as our finite temporal being to exist. Therefore we can deduce from our own nature the nature of God or the monistic substance or the self. The fact that conceptualization is relegated to temporal passing thought does not mean it has not correctly abstracted the nature of itself or the contents of the finite. One would have to demonstrate that conceptualization is incapable of characterizing anything true for that to hold. In which case one would have to conceptualize a nature in which conceptualization was false. This would be self refuting, for one would be trying to exemplify that nature through conceptualization.
