need some fantasy that isnt for kids

This is the opening paragraph of something I'm working on, I'd like it if you gave me your opinion.

In the middle of a grassy plain stands the town of Ardiel, the birthplace of some of the most celebrated heroes in the Kingdom of Neolan. Its construction was ordered by the first king, Leopald, to provide the highest quality soldiers in the entire world. The town has not changed much throughout the years, as most of its citizens leave to serve the king at twenty-one years of age, while some stay behind to pass on skills to the next generation of soldiers and scholars. People who live in Ardiel train their bodies and minds to near perfection, and those who cannot handle the intense training will surely die attempting the numerous trials they must complete. Everyone who lives here learns the secrets of magic, known only to the people of Ardiel and the King himself.
