NYTimes "reviews" trash like this all the time. Their literature columnists are all brain-dead roasties. If the book checks a few diversity boxes, and "bravely" depicts casual sex, then they rave about it. I see it happen every other week.

How have normies and the media not yet picked up on the existence of the diaspora literature trend. It's not even Asian-American women anymore, it seems like every fucking group in every Western country is writing shitty novels about their experiences as third-generation immigrants. I swear, everytime a new one of these books comes out, the NYTimes and book awards hail it as groundbreaking achievement and something never done before, somehow forgetting that they just reviewed and awarded ten books just like it.
Picrel is to show how formulaic and shitty these diaspora books are.

Does this NYTimes really think this is groundbreaking or good literature? Are the writers at NYTimes really that blind to the growing cliches and stereotypes around Asian-American female lit?
