Maybe it's just me being a plebeian, but I don't know any American author that can be in the same caliber as past American authors like Fitzgerald, Emerson, Thoreau, and Hemingway.

Just finished 1984, and although considered amateur reading I enjoyed the food for thought.

Could anyone else reccomend a good book (preferably a penguin classic paperback as I can easily buy them) that makes for a good read?

Thanks

You know nothing of what you're saying.
You're so unpatrician it's unbelievable.

Allow me to elucidate, using monosyllables for your sake (it appears as if I already have a strike against me).

The relationship of the wishing process is merely a narrative device, a fiction within a fiction, if you like. The work proper, the corpus major, if you will, deals with the simple Faustian yearning for something that we do not have, sight beyond sight, knowledge beyond earthly knowledge. Josh Baskin deals with his ritualized infantilization by calling upon the gods and is summarily rewarded. This is a double-edged sword, as the audience comes to realize. Josh comes to realize that he yearns for his childhood days, a wishing to return to innocence, the unwish echoing his own ego, the revulsion at the adult world, and is, the same gods undoing their own handiwork (Josh should count himself lucky) he is returned, completing the circle of earthly knowledge, not unlike the cyclical process found in Giovanni Battista Vico's Principi di Scienza Nuova d'intorno alla Comune Natura delle Nazioni.

Pic related, it's you, OJ.

I'm trying to argue that Hunter S. Thompson's character Raul, while an exaggerated caricature of himself, defines Thompson's life after Fear & Loathing more than it did before. My primary point is that the mode of identity that Thompson creates, while exaggerated, is the defined character that people assumed Thompson to be, so Thompson sort of conformed to his created character.

tl;dr: Thompson essentially becomes Raul so peoples' expectations match up.

Is this a fair assumption? I recall a BBC interview where Thompson says that people expect Raul of Thompson, and he enjoys to abide by their wishes, and he acknowledges the differentiation of character.

It's really fucking bad. submit this to any 1100 creative writing course instructor and they will shit on it and ask you what you're actually doing.

>Feeling positive, as one is inclined to feel when the goal seems simple and within a short grasp

So, so many things just fucking incredibly awkwardly worded make it convoluted in a way that is just screaming 'LOOK AT ME I'M A WRITER.' You're not F. Scott Fitzgerald, you don't have a good grasp on the English language at all, and I'm assuming these paragraphs weren't translated from Russian.
Try writing simple enough sentences, with good descriptions, without being overwordy/looking like you just vomited our a thesaurus, before you start making up sentence structure according to your own rules.
