What are /lit/'s thoughts on pic related? It's one of my personal favorites but most people don't seem to care much for it. I'd even go as far as saying this book sparked my love of literature.

I read this again for the first time in almost 15 years.

What other benchmarks of chidlren's literature hide away philosophical and economical treatises?

What did /lit/ read as a kid?

I loved this book when I was a kid. I read it until my copy of it fell apart.

Is this the best or worst thing I've ever done /lit/? Is this a high or a low, I can't decide. It seemed like such a good idea at the time...

Has anyone here ever read The Neverending Story?

I was thinking of what book to get next, then came on this idea. I loved the movie as a kid, and reading the wiki article leads me to believe the book has some pretty neat themes and tone.

I am concerned about it being a translation though, and whether it might be too childish. Thoughts?

This thread interests me. I recently fostered a poor-family child (a girl of 6 years): every month I contribute with a cash value with the NGO that assists the needy community where she lives, and also send letters to her and her family. I always send gifts (books, school material, dolls, movies, etc.), and started giving books about fairy tales, princesses and lullaby-stories (simple books, with a lot of figures).

In the future I intend to start giving her increasingly demanding books (Grimm Tales, the works of Lewis Carroll, books of Conan Doyle, The Hobbit, etc..). I would appreciate ideas from you.

They say that the book in the pic is considered very significant in the context of children's literature. Have any of you read it?

Michael Ende's Momo without a doubt. Also the Never ending story.

The book centers on a boy, Bastian Balthazar Bux, who is neglected by his father (who has sunken into despair after his wife's death) and is bullied by his schoolmates. Whilst running from some of them, Bastian bursts into the antique book store of Carl Conrad Coreander. Bastian steals a book from the store called The Neverending Story which Coreander has been reading; he hides in his school's attic, where he proceeds to read the story through the rest of the day and the night, not realizing that he has effectively become a part of it. After a while of reading he is magically transfixed and is brought into the book.

Incredibly epic book when you're about 10. Might even be epic now.
