Jonathan entered his office, a large two room deal with a wide window looking out over the bay. He surveyed the tremendous view grimly as he walked over cherry hardwood floors to his steel desk. He sat in a black hardwood chair and pulled the very first of a stack of folders sitting before him. He opened it and read three sentences:

This thought passed through the mind of a man as he plodded through sand and crusted yellow earth. He adjusted his wide disc of a hat and promptly forgot his thought.------

Jonathan dropped the folder into a bin on which a blue sticker reading "reject" was plastered. He continued this process until the rejection bin became unbalanced and fell to the floor. Rubbing his face Jonathan sighed and slipped out of his chair to the floor. And there he lay...

It's much simpler than that. Art used to be the domain of the bourgeois, a way of showing off their status and wealth that they can afford to own so many things that served no function beyond being beautiful. Suddenly, the middle class emerged and everyone could afford art. What's an upper class snob who doesn't want to be associated with the filthy masses to do? He now separates himself culturally from those filthy, untouchable yobs with paintings without figure and music without tonality (isn't it remarkable how those two things coincided?), and declares the kind of art that people have enjoyed for thousands of years to now be "kitsch", or "capitalist" (OH NO, ANYTHING BUT CAPITALISM!). There are lots of retards out there who take anything people in suits say seriously because people in suits are saying it, and thus, looking at shit like this is suddenly considered to be an intellectual pastime.
