Can someone explain to me the idea of the"numinous"

I'm reading Otto's 'The Idea of the Holy' and the concept is pretty strange.

What do you guys think of it, any good?

General Otto discussion.

Hey guys
I've been looking online for a free version of Santayana's Realms of Being to put onto my e-reader because I seriously do not want to drop the $105 dollars that its listed for on amazon. Does anyone know where I could find this online? Any format would do at this put, although I'd love to find it in .epub format to save the trouble of conversion.

Also general philosophy thread

Be 'specific'.

Could you please recommend some anthropology-related books? I'm thinking of studying that when I go to college next year. I'm not asking for an introduction to anthoropology, but books, maybe even novels, that a regular person with an interest but not a specialist in the subject would enjoy

I muscled my way through Prelude to Foundation a few years ago, and it was worse than having my dick snapped in half. I have a few weeks to kill before I travel, is the original Foundation worth my time? I'm a general sci-fi fan but couldn't get into Asimov beyond a few short stories after that book.

Final book just kinda jumped the shark.
I mean really...

Dumbledore - a manipulative homosex who in his youth rocked fabulous, flamboyant velvet suits.

Voldemort - a sadistic psychopath who hides a giant python inside a little old lady (Giggity!)

Snape - a creepy beta male who wasted his youth and talent stalking some ginger whore who went with the douchy Alpha-Male. He then fucks up and eventually dies sacrificing himself to save the result of Ginger Whore's raunchy copulation with Douchy Alpha Male.

Fenrir - rapist and quite possibly pedophile

It's not clear, but is he's very intelligent (like, a philosopher) he may be making some kind of transcendental argument. There are many, but their general form is that, to even begin argument (sometimes "rational thought"; sometimes "to accept truth values") one must assume that a god exists.

These arguments are usually pretty gay, and often end up "proving" the Christian god (either in an utterly contrived way, or without mention).

Just ask him to be clear on specific points, and be careful for suspicious (or even unmentioned) assumptions. That's often what undermines these kinds of arguments.

Post here again after the fact. Like... in this thread, if it's still here. I'm interested to see.

>Not to sound like a snooty oldfag, but there was a time on this board when Twilight was treated as popcorn fiction. Nothing more, nothing less. It was no more shameful to enjoy Twilight then to enjoy Harry Potter or The Da Vinci Code.
