What's the state of contemporary art? Went to art show yesterday and all I saw was either half-assed abstract expressionism or
deviantart-core paintings of star wars/video game characters.

Because this is a legitimately cool topic, I'm going to pretend that you're not trolling and give a serious response.

Whenever you post an image, Linear Algebra is used to produce a compressed image likeness of the original image. This compressed file takes up less space than the original file but loses some detailing of the original painting, and could be described as an interpretation: meaning of digital interpretation is not defined in terms of abstracts, but in how close the 'interpretation' can be to its likeness.

In some ways, I'd argue this type of bare minimum interpretation is superior, because it respects the idea that a work doesn't inherently need to have more meaning than its visual aesthetic. Although we can't perfectly preserve that, through a function's interpretations, we get something that both allows discussion and preserves the majority of original beauty; leaving further interpretation for the human viewer.
