How do you feel about W40k universe and the novels it has produced?

Granted, it's wildly dependant on the author and there is a bunch of trash but there is also a lot of decent material. I just finished reading the "The last church" which was pretty good and now I'm starting the Horus Heresy series.

Hey /lit/

I don't know much of anything about Warhammer 40k, but I have a couple of books, that is, the Eisenhorn and Ravenor Omnibus, respectively, First and Only, and the first three Horus Heresy novels.
I've heard Dan Abnett is one of the better authors when it comes to Warhammer.
My question is, where should I start, or does it matter at all? If not, which one of those I have is the best?

So I just finished this book and thoroughly enjoyed it although it was quite tiresome to read as English is not my first language. Are the other books as good in the Horus Heresy serie?

Is it even a matter of discussion?
