I have. I'm not a big fan of books that involve people I'm already familiar with and have an image of built up in my head. To me it's no different than going and reading up on fanfic. The only way for me to enjoy it is if they either pick some nobody mentioned in one line of a text or make up a character altogether. This doesn't bother me so much with books and shows, though. I love HBO's Rome even though it's historically bullshit.
