Are these worth reading as someone who doesn't want to philosophise nor is interested in engaging with the primary sources but is interested in the history of ideas?
Wikipedia says that he regretted his first volume, why and is there an alternative that has superseded it?

What happened to philosophy? There doesn't seem to be any major philosophers in the past 20 years or so. Yeah, yeah, I know Derrida and Baudrillard were alive in 2006, but they're predominantly 20th century men. Who is our Schelling? Where are are our Hegels?

Philosophy is a waste of reading time. Reading thousands and thousands of pages on whether not “Dog” means “Dog” or whether ethics are objective or just kinda objective.
