Reading La Bas got me interested in Eliphas Levi and the whole occult revivalist movement in Western Europe. The renewed interest in the occult is striking when compared with the advances being made in science and technology but I suppose it makes sense when understood next to the post-theistic rise of modernity (or rather, after Nietzsche). There was a pretty well learned Crowleyian here a few weeks ago, I wish he'd stuck around.
