Oh I'm not OP but I am the guy who believes that ST is a Libertarian military state.

I'll keep it in mind as I read this. Have been wanting to for a while. Thanks!

Questions to those who have an e-reader (specifically Kindles):

1) Can you search within the book? Sometimes I find myself looking at a name in a 700-pages book, I think "who the hell is that?" and have a hard time finding where he first appeared.

2) Are books DRM-protected?

3) (About the latest Kindle), doesn't the built-in light defeat the purpose of the e-ink? I thought that was why reading on a computer screen was such a pain.

I'm kind of a materialist, that's why I haven't got one yet, but I can't deny the advantages (the ability to search within a book and to be able to carry more than two books without the need of a bag are really appealing).

Sure did. My grandpa even had an audio book cassette with winnie the pooh which he always played when I rode in the car with him.
I'm certain he appreciated it as much as I did.

Two totally unrelated questions /lit/:

I remember seeing a long time ago a website where it was written something like "Churchill would have been proud of you" because a guy used a lot of phrasal verbs and was putting the preposition at the end. What's up with the "Churchill would have been proud"?

(Good luck understanding my question first…)

And something unrelated: what is correct between "Removes it from the user's selection" or "Removes it from the user selection". Same with "Removes it from the user request['s] selection".

Thanks.

I respect him in the regard that he did what he wanted. And he was undoubtedly aware of the risks involved, but due to his personality he clearly valued the reward of experiencing nature hands-on over the potential risk involved.
He seemed to realize what turn he wanted his life to take towards the end, but it was too late by then since he'd already gotten poisoned by then (or whatever it was, he was clearly too weak to escape)

Thawed frost quickens my feet
Whistling tunnels blocks ahead
Dark hood and blackened faces
Police presence and sharp glances.
Here the lights are short and far
Eyes in the sky are no comfort
If they want it, they take it.
Puddles soak their reflection
As they approach my shoulder
Blade gripped with sweaty desire
If you lose to me
I'll fuse to you.

I need your opinions, simple like or not like

Whiskey, cookies, rum and toast. Before now, people had no reason to be short or executive with me. I was an adorable kid and although I was shy around people I was still very good at making people like me. Now I’m an adult with a job so I owe people things and have duties. Of these duties are included paying for whatever people believe I consume and therefore invested in. I prefer cold and some like it hot. I don’t wish to pay to live uncomfortably. But I do. I internalized a whole ordeal involving anxious digression quickly followed by pursed lips, furled brows and sharp words. In the most honest way I can explain I was being unfairly treated yet I took a breathe and dropped it. But, just when I thought karma would be shitting in someone else’s shoes, like a pack of hyenas, they’re at it again. I was sitting in my chair rehearsing my key date Jefferson nickels being shot at with a rubber band. “I want to hit his head”. Not a moment too soon they left and I smoked. And I breathed. I cannot help but think, not just think but almost project my desire to argue with these people. I think about how every time we are together we argue and how every time someone says something someone else takes offense to it. When the argument begins I could pick out the exact moment without the slightest hesitation and yet I don’t. And at the same time I sense that the other people in the room must recognize the feud unfolding the same way I do, it’s so obvious. Why doesn’t anyone stop it? Are we all collective masochists? Nothing or worse is better than us existing together and we all exist solely to bide for others (other other) attention. We are a family. And yet if we were the last people on earth together we’d be the last people that ever existed on earth.

To get in the Halloween spirit I was thinking about reading some stories that kinda match the feel.

Though since I don't know much about books I was just gonna start with Dracula and Frankenstein, and was hoping for some more suggestions.

I want some deep, mature books to read. No popcorn stuff that I can't learn from like Tolstoy or Joyce. I'm talking about works in the league of Dostoevsky and Camus

Hi anons, looking at the success of God's meet up thread in Scotland i'm seeing if anyone has any interest in one in Manchester?

Uni is starting here soon so that could be an influx of anons, i was thinking we meet up on saturday 2nd November, about 12/1pm and we go for some coffee, or possibly the cinemas or something, maybe a drink in a bar.

so, any anons in Manchester England willing to meet up? i was thinking on the bridge in Piccadilly Gardens, or somewhere more noticeable if you're already from Manchester

pic unrelated
