To those of you who would not pull the lever

Imagine the following scenario: You are, by chance, being filmed by the news. They are not in position to help any of the people or do anything, but they film you not pulling the lever. Afterwards, they interview you. Your words will be known to everyone you know, and everyone you ever will know. How could you possibly justify your actions in such a way that you will not be despised by your fellow man for the rest of your existence?

A trolley is heading down a track and is about to kill one person tied to the track. You are told if you pull the lever you save that one person and divert the trolley onto another track.

You do so.

Afterwards, you are told that tied to the new track the trolley is headed on lies five people.

You are given the option to pull it back to kill the one man and save the five or not to pull it.

Do you pull the lever back or leave it be?

Finally solved the trolley problem.

Using this concept called cost of opportunity, the cost for pulling the lever is one person, but the cost for not pulling is always greater than one, lets call it x. Since x > 1, the damage for not pulling is always greater and you should pull the lever.
