I don't think there was a sticky in /mu/ when Dave Brubeck died.

No stickies in /tv/ for Durning, Klugman or even Andy Griffith.

Indubitably classy.

I don't understand something :
Why when someone loves somebody, he wants the partner to do the same...
Love is a great sentiment to feel. I personnaly love someone, and all I do is just loving her, again and again with all my soul, even if she doesn't considerate me and love somebody else. I'm like her shadow, I just feel love that flows in me. I love. I love loving. Anyway the person I love don't love me. I don't think that the love you take is equal to the love you make.
I hate relations.
I'm a free lover.

Why does nearly every work of literature have a depressing ending? Unless it's one of Shakespeare's comedies, any work of literature held in high esteem is bound to be terribly solemn. I mean, I get that it's considered "intellectual" to have an existential crisis and to moan about life's absurdity and the futility of human toil, but does it all have to be like that? Why is it that nearly every piece of literature with a happy ending is brushed off as something "light and frivolous"?

Some time ago I saw here a picture, wherein was counted the pages of all of George R.R. Martin's books, compared to a list of actually good books one could have read in the same amount of time. Along with some closing words by Schopenhauer. Can someone repost this pic?

My dear /lit/erati,

As some as you may recall, I have a habit of doing the world a good turn any time it does me a harmful or beneficiary one. This past week has seen one of each and has been terribly hectic emotionally, and quite trying physically. So, in keeping with my personal philosophy, I would like to pass on some goodness to you--anons and trip-fags alike. And so we come to the gift-giving.
First two individuals to post with triples will receive an item from their wishlist. For internationals, I am not adverse to sending you gifts, but we may have to swap e-mails and the like. I do not like Book Depository, and generally just pay from Amazon to ship wherever you are.
With that said, /lit/erates, let the posting begin! Good luck!

tl;dr: Triples get.

Good morning, /lit/erati.

Something mildly interesting happened last night. I turned 21. Now, I'm not a big fan of birthdays, and since I'm an immigrant I don't really have too many people to do things with on them anyway. It usually amounts to a few cards or facebook wishes.

But, anyway a friend of mine gifted me around 30 bucks for alcohol since he wouldn't be able to make it. Apparently he'd forgotten that I've taken a vow of sobriety. So, since the money was intended to make me happy in a fleeting way, I figured I'd be happiest buying three of you books from your wishlist.

So, please, have a book that is 15 bucks or under on your wishlist--that isn't including shipping, but if you are from out of the US, please don't use amazon as they charge a metric shit-ton.

The first three posts ending in doubles will win.

Good luck, anons!

Hey, /lit/, so I've been having a really shitty day today... and it's only 10:30 A.M. So, I thought I would do the world a nice turn.

First to get doubles gets a free book of their choice. Amazon, please.

Before there is a horrid, spiraling argument, I'd just like to say this:

No one really has a problem with women. We may think some laws are unfair, but we also recognize women as equals. Any sort of belief otherwise is willful indulgence in the same kind of chauvinism that many feminists claim men are guilty of. Certainly there are deviants who are vocal and ruin it for everyone--but they can only accomplish this if we let them. If you are a woman: fantastic. If you are a dude: splendid. If you are somewhere in between: awesome (Also, check out /tg/. They have a thing for you.). No quit F5ing (it's a refresh button, new /lit/erati) these arguments.

So, with that nicely addressed, can we please get back to books?

What do you consider yourself religiously citizens of /lit/? Do any of you even subscribe to any particular religion? What text(s) do you believe in and/or live by? What inspired you to practice your religion or not to practice a religion at all?

Personally, I consider myself a pantheist Unitarian Universalist. I was raised as a southern Methodist Christian, and I developed a belief symilar to Unitarian Universalism at a young age (early high school), although I was not aware that Unitarian Universalist even existed. I consider myself a pantheist due to my personal tendency to preform rational thought, and that was the conclusion that I find as my truth.

And what about you?

How are you today, /lit/?

So, I've been working on a paper for my Star Trek: The Quest to be Human class. It's ten pages on the episode Darmok, from TNG. Now, I'm am English major. I'm used to writing long (I consider 6+ long, and 30+ freaking nightmares) papers. However, I'm use to writing many papers in a semester. This one? It's 60% of my final grade. Plus, it's taught by a Communications professor under the guise of English. So, /lit/, I was wondering, is this kind of thing common in comm classes? I mean, 60% is just excessive. 4 papers totaling to be 80% of my grade is what I'm used to.

FYI, the paper is going great, and all that. Most definitely is NOT a homework thread.
