That's the vision I'm talking about. A collateral effect of industrial revolution and modern times. Time is money. Produce, work in order to consume. Don't waste, save, don't enjoy, save. Let's increase productivity, etc.
I'm not advocating hedonism here, but there really nothing wrong with masturbation or meditation or even with time "waste", which is in fact a way to use. Those things are only fruitless if you expect them to lead you to somewhere else. They are the fruits of the moment in themselves, not building up to anything, but not worthless because they are so.
