Luke Slattery's short book is a great encapsulation for the beginner. After that find a nice translation of Lucretius's De Rerum Natura.

There is no "in full" anymore. He wrote several books. Then a condensed set to summarize. And then an even shorter set which probably fit into one book. We have scant remnants of most of it. Lucretius' poem wasn't even finished, but it's the best most complete record of what all he came up with.

Well, I donno
I used to suffer mood swings, not full blown bipolar or anything, didn’t drink or smoke anything, and was bicycle bound. So on a good footing, I had been feeling horrible for a few years about her leaving me without much of a reason why. I think it was just financial, so a deeper hatred for the rat race started in me. One day I finally gave up my religion which had morphed into some ignorant hybrid of pseudoscience Gnosticism. But dropping it felt odd, sad and scary for less than a week. I decided this one short and insignificant life was all I had and I had to make it count for something for my own sake. I stopped dwelling on my loneliness before drifting off to sleep. I lost my job and was nearly homeless again, but oddly, found Epicureanism, I learned to keep my cool and found a dumb job to rebuild my nest egg up. First year into my new job I forced myself to give up the old childhood dream of filmmaking. Wasn’t going to happen. I freed myself of all expectations and felt free and happy. Eating right, good exercise and a generally good frame of mind is all it takes.
So that spoilered comment is wrong. Don’t say that to yourself anymore. Even if you find no one else in the world who will tell you this, you are worthy of love. Your love can sustain.

Wisdom comes with age, so keeping your wits about you, and a general positive outlook, consistent curiosity, and building of a good circle of friends are important. Not sure of all the books. Personal tastes take you in all directions.
I could give a few more of the things informing me lately if you want.

That Seneca advice sounds like crap. You edit what you will. Like Aquinas or other /x/ drivel or meme books like Call of the ___ etc. But Seneca was just trying to keep people from reading Epicurus

People kept asking for it.
This meme single handedly drained the board for the best posters. Because they all left to live fulfilling lives
