I used to wonder why every Mormon I met was SUPER cheery and nice. People say it creeps them out, but it didn't do so with me because I could tell it was genuine.

For awhile I thought it was because they have such strong community cohesion and it made their lives very pleasant. But after flipping through the book of Mormon it dawned on me.

These are the descendants of people who were dumb enough to read Joe Smith's pseudo-Elizabethan English and think it was not just entertaining, but so incredible that they needed to throw everything away and follow the fandom.

They were the kind of people who, were they alive today, would be getting Pickle Rick tattoos or naming their daughters Khaleesi. The Mormons you meet today are what you'd get if you shipped all those people off to the desert and made them inbreed for a couple generations.
