ITT we discuss The Recognitions. Favorite characters, the Faust parallels, the insane amount of theological background you need to get more than 50% of what's going on.

What are some examples of "angry" books? I want to read a good book that is an expression of the author's rage. Pic only somewhat related, but author related.

wyatt went home. I'm around page 400. this book has just now become such a chore to read. I want to shoot myself in the face. is everyone crazy? the carpenter, the maid girl, his dad? how long does this last? this book was great until this point. I shall continue to slog.

ohhh haha I get it, they're all hipsters. holy shit does the world really never change? they go to the art party for a picture that no one looks at and all they do is just gab about how smart and artsy fartsy they all are. some bitch is wearing a formal dress paired with a mickey mouse watch. a quarter of them are gay. the rest of them are painters or writers (gasp! like you guys) or pseuds.

I like this book. gaddis is right. hipsters are hilarious.

Does anyone want to have a discussion about this book? I'm currently reading it, and enjoying it quite a lot. What are your thoughts about it? Questions you have?

Everyone talks up Ulysses, Gravity's Rainbow, and Infinite Jest, and sometimes this gets mentioned. Is it good? I know nothing about it.

I think Infinite Jest has finally cooled down a bit (dfw posting still rampant though). Gravity's Rainbow is as bit as ever. Ive been seeing The Recognitions being mentioned a lot more lately. Im not sure if its just me.

So how is this compared to GR or Ulysses, in terms of difficulty, for a non-native but relatively proficient english speaker?

Is there a sadder sentence in 20th century literature than when Esme leaves Otto and Gaddis writes "She walked away from him easily."?

Otto should be a legendary character in pop culture for how he exemplifies how pathetic, insecure, and scared aspiring writers are.

What should I know going into The Recognitions?

Is there anything that is not obvious that will improve my enjoyment, analysis, and comprehension?

Is there one edition that stands out among the others as the best?
